1. Independence
Editorial decisions, including which products are reviewed, what is written and what score is given, are made solely by Robert Mitchell. No brand, retailer, affiliate network or advertiser has the right to review, approve, edit or delay an article. Commercial relationships are disclosed on every relevant page.
2. Product selection
Products are chosen based on reader requests, market interest and relevance to the categories covered. Products offered by brands are considered on the same basis. A product is never selected because of the commission rate offered by an affiliate programme.
3. Testing
Every review is based on personal, hands-on use of the product for a minimum of two weeks. Skincare, consumables and software are used for at least 30 days. Testing conditions and duration are stated in each article. Reviews are never written from press materials, specification sheets or other people's reviews.
4. Scoring
Scores are calculated from four weighted criteria: build quality (20%), performance (40%), value (20%) and support (20%). Each criterion is scored out of ten and the weighted average is published to one decimal place. The methodology page explains each criterion. Products featured in paid partnerships do not receive a score.
5. Disclosure
Each review states in the first paragraph whether the product was purchased at retail or supplied by the brand. Paid partnerships are labelled at the top of the article. Affiliate links are disclosed on every page. Full details are in the Affiliate Disclosure.
6. Accuracy and sourcing
Specifications and prices are checked against the manufacturer's or retailer's website on the date stated in the article. Claims made by a brand are reported as claims and tested where possible. Where a claim cannot be verified, the article says so.
7. Corrections
Factual errors are corrected as soon as they are verified, usually within 48 hours. A dated correction note appears at the top of the article describing what was changed. Articles are not silently edited after publication except for typographical fixes that do not change meaning.
8. Updates and re-testing
A review is revisited when a product receives a significant update, is recalled, is discontinued or when a reader reports an issue that warrants re-testing. Updated articles show both the original publication date and the update date. Scores may change on re-testing and the reason is explained.
9. Conflicts of interest
Robert Mitchell does not hold shares in, consult for or receive a salary from any brand or retailer whose products are reviewed on the Site. Any personal relationship with a brand founder or employee is disclosed in the article. Products from brands that are current paid partners are not given scored reviews during the partnership period or for six months afterwards.
10. Reader submissions and comments
Reader feedback and product suggestions are welcome through the contact form. Reader experiences may be quoted in updates with permission and without identifying information unless the reader requests attribution.
11. Use of artificial intelligence
All reviews, scores and conclusions are written by Robert Mitchell based on personal testing. Software tools may be used for spelling, grammar and formatting. No article is generated by an automated system.
